Residents throughout all 50 American states will mobilize to protest on Saturday, aligned around a common message: America is sliding into authoritarianism and must be no rulers in the United States.
Countless participants are likely to join the anti-authoritarian demonstrations, marking a further iteration for this coalition that previously gathered during one of the largest days of protest in American history. Events are set for more than 2,700 sites, from tiny communities to large cities.
The existing president has implemented measures across urban centers, seeking to send in government agents and expanding border personnel. Officials are working to penalize dissent, going after progressive groups which are accused of backing violent acts or civil unrest. Local governments have mostly resisted, suing to stop national guard interventions, and residents have hit to public spaces to voice opposition against the militarization of their communities.
Supporters in government have sought to portray these anti-monarchy rallies as unpatriotic and organized by radical activists, the non-hierarchical political movement, and also asserting that the rallies are extending the federal standstill. A key leader has announced he will send the local militia to Austin in advance of the protests.
A number of elected representatives, such as congressional members representing the left and third-party parties, are expected to join the rallies. The coalition alliance has continually emphasized its devotion to nonviolent action, and tens of thousands of attendees have studied on safety and peaceful engagement tactics.
The key message for everyone to remember is the fact that the administration wants us to feel fear, but we will not be coerced into fear and silence,” remarked a leader of one participating coalition. “It is vitally necessary for participants to stay peaceful, to stand proud and to say what they care about, and not to be cowed by threats.”
Over 200 organizations have partnered as partners for the October protests. Planners have selected multiple anchor cities: including Washington DC, the Bay Area, SD, Georgia's capital, NYC, Houston, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Kansas City, Bozeman, the Windy City and New Orleans.
The clear framing of these actions is that America opposes authoritarian rule, a criticism aimed at the administration's expanding dictatorship. Within the points planners have pointed to involve:
The June anti-authoritarian rallies attracted vast crowds to the streets, based on counts showing that approximately several million people took part in events in over 2,000 venues making it “probably the second-largest one-day protest after the president was inaugurated in 2017”, topped only by a prior large-scale event that year.
